I've decided to bake along with the current series of Great British Bake Off. For week one I made this raspberries & cream Swiss roll. I was tempted by the fondant fancy challenge, but the bonkers amount of sugar in the recipe put me off.

Today's bake is loaf of black flour & spelt bread. The black flour is from Letheringsett Mill in North Norfolk. It adds a wonderfully nutty taste to the bread.

This is viscerally disgusting from anyone, but especially from a Labour PM. Every single person in the UK will have stories about how immigrants have made our lives, or the lives of our loved ones, immeasurably better. Itās language like Starmerās that causes āincalculable damageā. I feel sick.

Topping up myĀ coffee
Everyone else gets asked what they want. I always take what Iām given. Itās a ritual weāve followed since day one. I came in full of that coffeeshop rush, enticed by the familiar but exotic aroma, joined the queue and waited my turn. Iād decided on a black Americano, my go-to in a new place. But when I got to the counter there was no asking what I wanted.

Many years ago I had every book JG Ballard had written. They finished up in the wrong pile during a separation and ever since I've been trying to rebuild the collection. This morning I found Kingdom Come in a second hand store and I think I've done it.
