Happy 55 years to Forza Horizon 6! Feels like it's just been announced an hour ago, time flies like crazy.

It'll probably be a great car game, as all Horizons are - but will it be something more than a distilled "Hello, here's your cars, have fun!!!!" experience FH5 was?

The dangers of using the OS locale when writing and reading save files, visualized - Easy Delivery Co. currently does that, which means my desktop OS with a PL locale saves numbers with a comma, but Steam Deck with an EN locale expects a dot. Everything breaks!

Unity frame limiter is inaccurate and it's not placebo; it affects games all over - the moment they use this in-built frame limiter, they are at a mercy of the Windows timer resolution (1ms) and they stutter. Special K increases the resolution to 0.5ms so it works better, but still far from ideal.

Gotta love when a bug I am investigating turns out to be an Unreal Engine bug that got fixed only this year in the latest engine release 🙃 Time for a backport!

Instruments of Destruction has a stupid amount of vehicle variety, looks like it might be really fun to just drive around and shoot stuff up.

Perhaps this would make for an interesting tech review, especially since there's nothing else in October I'd be interested in covering...

Rainy Day Racer from @illegaldogs.bsky.social is a pleasant surprise - a cheap and simplistic game with only 3 tracks, 3 cars, and limited to time trialing, that manages to be more entertaining than I expected. Handling is excellent and channels Ridge Racer with the drift-on-rails mechanics. (1/2)

Darkenstein 3D combining Wolf3D-like unfiltered textures with modern "default-looking" Unity lighting is a really strange choice that may look okay on walls, but is just ugly on metal surfaces. Not a fan of this style at all.

Tried @wanted3d.bsky.social Demo that released today on Steam. As it's my introduction to GZDoom games, I don't know what to expect from games like this, but I did have fun! From what I heard, Doom-likes with platforming are uncommon. Maybe I'm yearning for some old school FPS action...

I -finally- got to try RoboCop: Rogue City with my new GPU, and as expected, the RTX 5070 Ti breezes through it maxed out at 1080p. A huge step up from my demo experience with a GTX 1070 at lowest details and 30 FPS 😄 The game is -90% right now, for this price it's a must have IMO.

I liked the demo a lot, looking forward to giving the full game a try too!
