My debut memoir with @groveatlantic.bsky.social comes out August 12th and here are the galleys! Six years of hard work. The cover is a picture of me from my first year on the hotshot crew. Twenty-one yr old me never would have believed this could ever happen, but here I am.

I have not been here at all but I will be here! It's a breath of fresh air.

Nothing has taught me more about how white supremacy and classism and discrimination works in liberal circles than being in a PhD program. It's so subtle, but some of these ppl may as well be MAGA even tho they went hard for Kamala.

In my newsletter today I wrote about why I don't celebrate Thanksgiving and offer a reading list composed of incredible Indigenous authors and their books- I'll be creating a couple more reading lists over the next couple weeks.

Lincoln created Thanksgiving in 1863- one year after he ordered a mass hanging of Dakota tribal members. The holiday was meant to improve relations between northern and southern states as well as w/ Native Americans. It is a patently American holiday- one that refuses to acknowledge the violence

Authors Against Book Bans has posted an open letter demanding that publishers prepare for 2025 by protecting authors and the freedom to read.

I know from experience that there are many good men in the world. But my lorb, I want to know why there are so many terrible men. I mean, I think I know why, but if you're a man I'd love to hear your thoughts.

If you're alone today- know that you're not alone in that experience. It's okay to be sad or angry or content or even happy to have some time to yourself. If you're grieving...know that many of us have spent the holidays in despair. It does get better. I love you.

I made a TikTok about the true history of Thanksgiving and genocidal actions of colonizers and they deemed it ineligible for the FYP. This is why social media is a farce. Ppl can post transphobic and racist content but I can't post actual U.S. history without being censored.

I'm a big fan of Dreyer's English. An accessible instructional book for writers of all levels. Also, it's fun to read.

15 yrs ago I submitted a short story w a letter saying I had a couple community college classes & didn't know what I was doing. An editor accepted it & spent a year helping me revise it. Then he encouraged me to get my BA. I just finished copyedits on my 1st book & he's in the acknowledgements. 🐣

I will no longer listen to anyone who grew up with a household income over $40k a year. I am *incredibly* tired of folks who grew up getting more than their basic needs met telling lower middle class and poor people how they should feel. It's gaslighting. Listen to poor people. I'm serious.

Hm...would I rather be in an echo chamber with people who accept me or in a silo trapped amongst bigots who tell me I'm inhuman simply because I'm nonbinary? I'll take the echo chamber, thanks!

Thirteen yrs ago I applied to college. I was 32 yrs. old., working as a nanny & farm hand. Neither of my parents graduated high school & I spent my 20s working blue collar jobs. Now I'm pursuing a PhD & have a forthcoming book. Don't take anything for granted- especially your limitations.

Can we all collectively agree to make this a space where we speak intentionally, bc what we say has a tangible affect on the collective? I think it would be nice. Twitter was lovely but sometimes lacked nuance. Plus those constant random rants. Idk. Just a thought.

I left Twitter right after it switched to X and it is *truly* delightful to see folks I've been missing for over a year. Idk why I didn't come here right away but I'm glad I'm here now.

I turned my copyedits in today which means that all I have left is proofreading which means that by the end of December my book will be on its way to being published and totally out of my hands. Feeling kinda like I posted something too vulnerable on social media x5000.

It would benefit everyone to revisit Crenshaw's Intersectional theory and possibly...maybe...perhaps... apply the framework to their ideas about privilege and oppression. Some of the takes I've seen on social media are absolutely devoid of nuance.
