Six months ago today, scholar and teacher Ricardo Ortiz suddenly passed away. New at PB: Maia Gil’Adí (@maiagiladi.bsky.social) remembers his life.

I had the privilege of writing this tribute to Ricardo for Public Books. It’s hard to put into words the immense loss I feel as a scholar, friend, & someone whose thinking & life were shaped by his brilliance & generosity. This essay is my small offering of gratitude and love. XOXO, always. 💔

All I have to add to this beautiful essay by @maiagiladi.bsky.social is that there are some astoundingly original and dazzlingly smart books on Latinx literature in the publication pipeline, as I know because I’ve edited/am editing them.
