34th: From Russia with Love Fleming’s 1957 Bond novel that offers a more human/romantic approach to the Cold War and spy game. Interestingly the first half focuses on Russia and its preparations for the plot to kill Bond. Second half is Bond focused as he grapples with romance and violence. #booksky

33rd: The Antidote a dazzling novel set in Nebraska in 1935 during the Dust Bowl that explores notions of memories, archives, and history through the experiences of a prairie witch, local farmers, a scarecrow and a photographer for the government. It is a book that will get into your bones. #booksky

32nd: Roger Kahn’s entertaining and informative look at the grand game of baseball in New York and in the classic era of the late 1940s into the mid to late 1950s. A fun read from the 1990s that is perfect for baseball fans and for the upcoming season. #booksky

Lisa McGee’s new @netflix.com series #HowtoGetToHeavenfromBelfast is perfect St. Patrick’s day viewing. It is a fantastic Irish show that blends, black comedy, mystery, murder, and intrigue to craft an entertaining series that is endearing and witty like DerryGirls.

Two Step Devil blends the Southern Gothic tradition of Flannery O’ Connor with the current Appalachian tradition to weave a bonkers and magical book with exacting prose and rich characterization. A book I would not have read unless it was recommended to me.

31: Two Step Devil from Jamie Quatro is unlike any novel I have ever read and that is a good thing for this bravura book that explores American ideas of religion, art, and alienation as well as the dark sides of the country like human trafficking. Not an easy read but a powerful one. #booksky

30th: The Museum Detective a thrilling new mystery story set in Pakistan set amidst the world of antiquities, organized crime and corruption in the country. Phillip’s book offers a fascinating glimpse of that country and introduces a brilliant and fierce new character in Gul. #booksky

Oscar for Best Picture goes to #OneBattleAfterAnother which was a weird film but not PT Anderson’s best work but it does speak to the moment. Still, #Sinners was robbed. #Oscars

Oscar for best actress goes to Jessie Buckley which is a solid win and no surprise as she has been the front runner. Her performance in #Hamnet is striking and moving. #Oscars

Oscar for actor in a leading role goes to Michael B Jordan. What an incredible and fitting win for one of the greatest American actors today. He created one of the most original characters and performances. Such a great win. #Oscars

Oscar for directing goes to Paul Thomas Anderson for #OneBattle which is not shocking but a bit disappointing because Coogler is one of the greatest American directors of all time. #Oscars

Oscar for Best original song goes to #KPopDemonHunters “Golden” a first for Kpop music. #Oscars

Oscar for International Feature Film goes to #SentimentalValue which is an exquisite and moving look at family, space, and the power of artistic expression. #Oscars

Oscar for cinematography goes to #Sinners. What a great win for DOP Autumn Durald Arkpaw whose images are so powerful resonant. A wonderful win for females in the industry and especially in technical roles like DOP. Historic win. #Oscars

Oscar for film editing goes to #OneBattleAfterAnother which used to be a barometer to determine the winner of Best Picture but that has not definitely been the case in recent times. #Oscars

Achievement in sound Oscar goes to #F1 which is fitting. Sound is so important to the film which has great cinematography and effects but an overall rote story. #Oscars

Oscar for Best original score goes to #Sinners done by Ludwig Goransson giving him his 3rd Oscar win. #Oscars

Oscar for Best Documentary feature goes to #MrNobodyAgainstPutin. A really great documentary that captures the dangers of ideological fanaticism and propaganda. Really important film. #Oscars

What a win for All The Empty Rooms which is a searing and moving indictment of school shootings in America. #Oscars
