Start of Summer and the Reed Warblers have arrived on the Somerset Levels in large numbers. Great to see and hear so many as territories are set up and breeding pairs established. 😀

My first Painted Lady of 2026 seen on a Somerset Moor near Langport.

An uncertain future for this Crane on the Somerset Levels. Recently 'beaten up' by a dominant male Crane it has now lost the end of its left wing. Cannot see it flying again so unsure what the future holds for this bird.

'Road Runner'......... ....well not quite, as a Great Crested Grebe runs across Chard Reservoir #Somerset this misty Monday morning. 😀

A very local Hoopoe at the weekend showed very well just as the sun was going down. The crest went up when the Starling landed close by. What was more delightful was a family living just up the road came to see this Hoopoe and the children were so excited to see it. 😀

English #Bluebells in #Somerset are probably 3 weeks early this year and most likely be over by the end of April. Trying a new method to photograph single stems in a local wood this afternoon. Here are a couple of examples. Very little post processing, all the work done when taking the photograph. 🙂

In the bird seed margins around a few fields in South #Somerset the local wildlife finds plenty of food and shelter. In this particular field a Roe Deer can be seen looking out to the left.

At Forde Abbey #Dorset. hidden away under the trees the Dog's Tooth Violet is now in full bloom. A spectacular flower which lasts for only a few days.

Gossamer spider webs alongside the River Parrett this morning. These webs consist of thin sheets of silk produced by small spiders. In the background is a Great Egret which are now fairly common across the Somerset Levels and Moors.
