Yesterday the NHS 10 year plan was published. Proposals to make healthcare local & preventative are welcome, as are plans to make eye care more accessible. But it comes without a much needed social care plan & there is no distinct policy for people with learning disabilities, unlike past plans.

📢 Today, the House of Commons votes on the Lords Amendments to the NI Contributions Bill—a decision that could push social care, health providers, and charities to the brink.

Accessible consultation versions should be out at the same time from government, but shamefully are not - as soon as they are we’ll post those links. We will post further thoughts on the detail over the coming days, when we understand the impact of the reforms.

And today’s announcement must not delay reform of social care, which needs its own urgent plan - not least because of the crisis in funding which is set to worsen with the employer NI changes in April.

As it takes on a bigger role over the NHS, we urge government to act on health inequalities experienced by people with learning disabilities, and not to forget the need for community based reforms for eye care – with special schools eye care ready to rollout after a decade of campaigning.

Confirmed. Yesterday it was announced that the NHS will scrap a number of targets for next year including the one for learning disability Annual Health Checks. The target focused minds and attention on people with learning disabilities & it is reckless to scrap it without an alternative.

Yesterday @guidedogsuk.bsky.social handed in a 28,000 strong petition on action needed on pavement parking and the matter was debated in parliament. We totally support this campaign – with people with sight loss amongst pedestrians often most affected. #PavementParking
