Unpopular opinion but literary trope can be exhausted If it's being written badly often. Tropes reflect reality and when a trope gets TOO removed from reality as just a cog in 'Fun machine', the catharsis is gone. Catharsis comes from the feeling of truth, not just snappy writing. #writing

I'd really appreciate if writers these days took a look at their characters doing therapyspeak and whether that's appropriate for their work and their world. By "therapyspeak" I mean speaking like this: "This is the emotion I'm feeling, and feeling that emotion makes me want to act in a way"

Anyone else remembers the period in vns/games of early 2000s when the character design was more minimal? Everything is a bit exaggerated now, with strong body emphasis. But I am strangely drawn to those early designs with flatly drawn characters. They fit the literary drama of vns very well. #vn

Since VC is my favorite game, I think it's a shame that its story didn't inspire more games in general. We really do need more complex but earnest political stories. Too many games rely on irony and pop culture references. VC is bold but in an honest way. That's what I try to do in my own games.
