Myrtle tree at Mount Anne, south west Tasmania by master photographer Peter Dombrovskis. Mist envelopes ancient, cool temperate rainforest in Tasmania’s World Heritage Wilderness. Shaped by wind and stunted by altitude and cold this twisted Myrtle would be centuries old.

You might easily take this for tropical rainforest in some faraway country. But it's an Irish temperate rainforest, a much *rarer* habitat. And it's equally threatened, only by masses of deer, goats, and sheep, rather than chainsaws or bulldozers.
