Four stages of the 11x14” painting “Absent” from five(!) years ago. This was part of a series that definitely bears revisiting, depicting slightly odd domestic scenes, populated by a bunch of guys who look suspiciously similar to myself. A painting I’m quite fond of from 2020. A friend of mine modeled for a photo session in another friend’s pool in Sacramento. The results were … inspiring. “Anthony’s Back” watercolor on paper by Gabriel Garbow. Sold; but DM for more options.

For anyone curious about my process, here is an example. “Boy on Flat Rock” is an 8x10” watercolor from a few years ago. It starts with a yellow and blue underpainting, leaving the brightest spots of the composition white. Then ‘local’ color is added, and finally rich color and details.

A recently finished commission with my studio assistant looking on.

Now that I’m getting settled into my new home, I wanted to share a glimpse into my studio setup - at least its current state. I rigged a utility shelf to work as a standing desk. The light in this atrium room is incredible. Oh yeah… and there’s a detail of a current work in progress.
