My round-up for the week...

Last week I visited the Hellesdon Adult Learning Training Centre, to speak with staff and students. It was great to hear about their work, building students' skills and confidence, as well as their future plans. Thank you Adult Learning for showing me around your construction training centre.

This is a historic step to protect the two-state solution and affirm the rights of Palestinians. We must also continue to push for an immediate ceasefire, an end to the horrendous suffering in Gaza, a surge in aid and all the hostages to be released.

Last week I visited Sizewell B and C. The Government has announced game changing investment to unlock Sizewell C that will deliver clean power for the equivalent of six million homes and support 10,000 jobs at peak construction.

Today marks 97 years since women won the vote on equal terms with men. I was proud to join women MPs in parliament to mark this. Dorothy Jewson was one of the first Labour MPs to be elected for Norwich in 1923. I am very proud to follow in her footsteps!

Today I voted for the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill which passed its Third Reading. This was an incredibly difficult decision and I want to thank all my constituents who have contacted me.

Infertility is a medical condition that affects 1 in 6 couples but access to treatment is a postcode lottery. Today I urged the government to end it and asked the Minister to meet with me and campaigners including Fertility Action.

My round-up of the week...

Today I welcomed the investment in the NHS announced in the spending review. This will make a real difference to my constituents. I asked the Minister to ensure this investment supports improving women’s health and tackles the waiting list that so many women in Norfolk have been stuck on.

Since my election I have been campaigning hard on three key priorities for Norwich North - health, homes and opportunity. The Spending Review today delivers on all of these and more:

Today the Government announced that Winter Fuel Payments will be expanded to a total of 9 million people. – over 75% of pensioners- from this winter. This a really welcome announcement.

The Spending Review is about investment in people as much as it is about infrastructure. I spoke on #BBCPoliticsEast yesterday to explain why this government is investing in things that really make a difference to people.

At the weekend I held my morning surgery in Thorpe. We were then out speaking to residents in Sprowston. Part of my promise to be visible and accessible all year round. Thanks to the team who joined me including local councillor Martin Booth.

Good to attend the Southern North Sea conference at Norfolk Showground yesterday. An important energy conference organised by the impressive East of England Energy Group.

Last week I raised the need to save our Norwich Walk-In Centre in Parliament, and I wanted to give you a quick update on the campaign. There's still time to take part in the consultation and to sign the petition.

The Labour government is delivering for patients in Norwich North. Three GP surgeries – Lawson Road, Woodcock Road and Prospect Medical Practice receive a bricks and mortar upgrade to modernise practices and enable more appointments in the area as part of Labour’s Plan For Change

As Independent Hospitality Week comes to a close, I wanted to show my support and promote some of the hard working independent businesses in the Norwich North, some of whom I have had the pleasure to visit since my election. Cafe193, The Feed Norwich, The Food Vault Norwich

Today I joined residents, staff, and families from Dussindale and Mary Chapman Court Care Homes and joined in with their VE Day activities. Thank you for inviting me to remember such an important day with you.

With just a few weeks till the consultation on the future of our Walk-In Centre closes, now is the time for people to raise their voices and make sure the local NHS board knows how important it is to our city.

On Friday, I visited the newly refurbished Old Mill pub in Drayton to talk with Mark and Carol, who run the pub, and Greene King management about what it’s been like since reopening. We talked about opportunities and challenges, and how important the community is to their business.

My round-up for the week...

It was great to visit Sprowston Community Academy and meet with students and teachers. We discussed issues from Anti-social behaviour and bullying, support for young carers, youth mental health and SEND. Thank you to the school for hosting me and students for a great discussion.

Yesterday I spoke in the House of Commons, welcoming the £17 million of new government funding awarded to Norwich’s Labour led city council to improve energy inefficient homes. I know how dedicated Labour in Norwich is to ensuring everyone has a warm home and tackling fuel poverty.

I was sad to hear about the fire incident at RCCG on Plumstead Rd at the weekend. I’m glad that nobody was hurt, and I want to thank Norfolk and Fire Rescue Service for attending the scene so quickly and for all of their hard work, as well as the local community who rallied round

Yesterday I met Nutmeg a lovely beagle puppy – who is living a great life. Sadly, this is not the reality for many beagles who are commonly used in animal testing. We need an end to animal testing as many of my constituents have told me – I spoke in parliament yesterday to raise their concerns.

I know SEND is a huge challenge across our country and in Norfolk. I’ve already spoken to many families for whom the system just isn’t working. I want to hear your experiences so I can push for the changes we need locally and nationally.
