Threats to water security are rising, with climate impacts hitting harder and sooner than predicted. Rapid development in the Indo-Pacific has further impacted water challenges in the region with increased pressure on water resources from competing demands.

Environmental water refers to any freshwater body such as rivers, wetlands and floodplains. These types of water bodies support biodiversity and the well-being of communities, but a changing climate and other risks are impacting their flow and threatening species.

Resilient and equitable water solutions will only be achievable when the priorities and needs of the vulnerable sections of society are considered in water policies. The Australian Water Partnership aims to integrate inclusivity principles by tailoring development activities to address those needs.

AWP recently met with regional partners in South Asia exploring opportunities and areas of shared interests for progressing climate goals. The meetings helped narrow down regional priorities and generated renewed momentum to work together for climate-resilient water solutions. 🤝
