One thing I didn’t exactly expect was for Baz to be a true innings eater. He leads the staff in innings pitched, averaging just under 6 IP/GS and on pace for 186.2 IP over a 32-start season. And while injuries can always happen, he’s now made 56 consecutive starts dating back to mid-2024.

Here’s the thing about Coby Mayo: he’s absolutely crushing lefties & getting better as he goes (181 wRC+ this year, 128 career), but he still can’t hit righties at all and isn’t making progress in terms of results (36 wRC+ this year, 58 career). He may just be settling into an extreme platoon bat.

One of the most compelling baseball storylines imo is whether the Rays can more or less sustain this. Can they over-perform enough on the margins through controllable skills or will it come crashing down? They’ve built up a good amount of cushion in either case.

Samuel Basallo is now tied for 3rd with Sal Stewart in wRC+ among hitters under 23 at 126, behind Kevin McGonigle (137) and Junior Caminero (136). He's a year younger than Stewart and Caminero and about the same age as McGonigle. He's tied for 9th in wRC+ among hitters under 25.

Nice. I was expecting Trey to get the start tomorrow or Thursday. One thing to watch: since Gibson's 2-inning relief appearance for the Orioles on May 8, he made two starts for Norfolk of 4 innings and 3 innings on May 14 and May 20, respectively. Wonder how deep they'll let him work.

I'd be playing Blaze Alexander more. Bat speed, exit velocity, hard hit%, squared up% all positive compared to career. Aggressive in the zone without chasing too much. Some in-zone whiff to manage but his .320 xwOBA is 50 points higher than his wOBA. In line for some good reggresion.

This is shaping up to be Cowser’s best month, by far, since June 2025. In four months from July 2025 to April 2026, he posted wRC+s of 69, 63, 66 and 45, respectively. Cowser is flawed, but with his speed and defense the bar for his bat isn’t actually that high. Here’s hoping he’s turned a corner.
