The Mike/Caitlin arc on Spin City season 4 seemed entirely pointless to me. I can't remember at what point it became known Fox would be leaving, but really rough romantic wheel spinning that was clearly going to go nowhere.

It's a sentiment that basically boils down to "but actually new tech can be good," which is essentially unhelpful and lacking insight. You cannot in good faith separate the potentials of this technology and the harm being done en masse by the industry as a means to shortchange the public.

I'm mad that they put Ted Danson as fake Sam Malone in that Dunkin Super Bowl ad. While Cheers did run into the 90s, it was very much an 80s show and is definitely considered 80s culturally. Why did they not just do Fraiser??

I also think the latter was a fear of having to portray male co-leads in the more "submissive" love interest role in action/adventure movies with female protagonists.

I think this is very much the leading factor. We also no longer really have male protags that are essentially earnest; everyone is some variation of RDJ or Ryan Reynolds or a combination of both. Flippant, quippy, sarcastic, and always "over it."

I have been rewatching the big trilogies of the early aughts (Matrix, LOTR, Spider-Man, POTC) and it's absolutely amazing how all of them have some of the greatest action sequences ever committed to film and at the heart of all of them is a big, earnest, sweeping romance.
