And now for something completely different. Having a little break from painting 28mm WW2, so painting 6mm Napoleonics just for a change. Two French Dragoon Regiments for the Peninsula, Adler miniatures from H&R.

Managed to do the third section for my DAK/Italy forces, one more left to do, as its always good to have the choice of an extra section. I've included a 'group' shot of the figures painted so far, I've tried to give the impression of a mix of uniforms, whilst keeping to an overall theme.

Sharpe Practice today, bit rusty but having lots of fun. The Brits almost lose because Spanish Guerrillas lose their discipline and charge French Line defending a wall (not a good move) The French attack falters as their Officers die under a hail of British lead, lowering their force morale to 0

After Neil Thomas's Ancient rules we decided to give a hex version of his Napoleonic rules a run out. We used the blocks and terrain from the C&C Napoleonic game and fought Rolica, great fun 😁

Summer holidays means summer games with the grandson. 15mm Ancients with Early Greek Hoplites versus Earl Achaemenid Persians using Neil Thomas rules. Simple, straightforward and another beating for me 🤣 Figures and buildings property of the late Mike Hobbs, miss you everyday Hobbsy mate 👍

That went well (not). J took an extra Section and a SU122. I put my faith in field defences to try and channel him down the flanks. The firefight was pretty even till the tank turned up. A last stand by one of my sections in the objective house was smashed with 11 HE with a storm of steel bonus.

Somewhere in Eastern Europe winter of 44/45, and the heroes of the Red Army push ever further west in their mission to destroy Nazi Germany. More to the point, my grandson gets to use his brand new Russian platoon in a game of CoC2. #spreadthelard ##chainofcommand2

WIP Wednesday and I have quite a bit on the go. Buildings and fencing in 28mm for the Eastern front game i have planned. 28mm T34's etc as supports for J's Russians. Another 28mm squad of DAK. And a 15mm railway station for Old Hickory. Busy busy 💪

Up next, 28mm Napoleonics using Valour and Fortitude. Never played these rules before, so it's a straight forward scenario with 4 Objective markers (The cows), and 2 brigades per side.

Russians (a short thread) A couple of weeks ago, my grandson Jacob, asked me to paint some Russians for him. He said he wanted them to go up against my snowy Germans in our games of Chain of Command, and like the soft touch I am I said yes.

Yesterday's game saw me in charge of some plucky Brits attacking an Objective held by @geofftbond.bsky.social 's dastardly hun. The house circled in red was the objective and with 14 support pts against Geoffs 8 pts I was hoping for the best

I've subscribed and had a quick look at the site, I'm very impressed. It's going to be a centre for all things Lard, a place to keep up to date with what's going on, and also ask all those questions you ever had about any of the rules. For a fiver a month it's a no brainer!

So today, me and my grandson started learning a new set of rules in preparation for a games day at Firestorm Games in Cardiff in a couple of weeks time. I aint been shot Mum, WW2 company level rules, here's the table set up for an introductory game using infantry alone.

Excellent game of CoC2 with the grandson today, he attacked with the Americans and I had a Heer platoon. My deployment was hampered by my central jop in the objective house catching fire on a roll of 4 sixes 😳 Good win for him (git) 😂

Yesterday saw the final playtest for CoC2, with a British company attack on two villages in Normandy. Loads of fun with @toofatlardies.bsky.social umpiring in his usual absolutely neutral style 😏 First stage was the attack by two platoons of Infantry supported by a platoon of Shermans.

I'm still going with my Brit platoon for Scicily/Italy. I bought a single plastic sprue of 8th Army figures in shorts. Im thinking troops would have worn their old desert kit along with BD's and khaki shirts. I'm pleased with the ragtag look of them, I'm about halfway now 😀

Finished a unit of the 95th Rifles for my Grandsons collection. He's using 2 bases a unit as he only has a small table to game on at home. Last photo is what he has so far, in a years time he'll have two viable forces hopefully.

Great day today at Winter Wonder Lard in Bristol. Took my grandson along to his first Lard day and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in organising it all 👏

Wanting to play games such as General d'Armee and Soldiers of Napoleon, I began putting forces together for some Peninsula War battles. Progress so far is 12 x 24 figure battalions of French Infantry, 8 in greatcoat and 4 in habit veste. Still a long way to go, even in 6mm.

Painted a handful of Perry WW2 British infantry for the next project, CoC2 in Scicily/Italy 43/44. Plan is to get the forces done for a game to take around some of the Lardy days later this year. I'll use a mix of troops in long and short trousers and paint them to look a bit rough around the edges.

Today was a game of 15mm CoC, with SS troops on the attack against dug in US infantry. A squad sent up each flank with another squad an infantry gun and Sniper team supporting from the centre. The yanks didn't deploy till the last moment, they were outgunned and driven from the field by the Germans.

Playtesting CoC2 with @geofftbond.bsky.social today, haven't played in a while, so looking forward to it 😀

Another game of SP with my grandson, won't bore you with the details suffice to say he's a jammy git! This was the capture the objective game, and he was the defending Brits. Again I pushed my Conscripts too far forward and they lost me a lot of FM. Enjoying my games with him though. #spreadthelard

Whilst the cavalry and Voltigeur force began to move forward, the unfortunate demise of the overall force commander and Conscript unit ended the game before either could become useful. #spreadthelard

This significantly lowered the French morale, which again plummeted when the Force commander was wounded by shooting from the Brits Light Infantry on the opposite flank.

While initally making good progress,the French came a cropper when their Conscripts over stretched themselves and contacted the Spanish Militia. The Spanish were pushed back, which allowed a field of fire for the Rifles guarding the objective behind them. They shot the French conscripts to pieces.

Some photos of today's game of Sharpe Practice. My grandson has taken a shine to these rules, so I set up another encounter in the Peninsula. This time it was the defence in depth scenario, with him defending with a Brit/Spanish force.

So the man from Delmonte, he say Yessssss!! (Groan) Excellent game of Sharpe Practice, could have gone either way, but my grandson Jacob takes the win 👏 As you can see from the photo it was very close, the Brit FM eas down to 3 so they were due to lose half their flags at the end of this turn.

The final move of the game, it's a red flag taking the Brits to 3, then Pat Mcgroins group is activated and runs to support Druff should he fall, the next card is another red flag allowing Druff with 4 cards to activate the second time this move, rolling 3xdice he easily makes it to safety!!!! Phew!

The most exciting of endings, Sgt Druff moves his little group to within 4" of safety, Sgt Petain has yet to be activated and could easily get there first, he needs his activation die or 2 blue cards (he currently has 1, the Brits 2)
