What my book is about: a sense of yearning for a lost sense of purpose. the unease of living in a place that is custom designed but no longer fit for life. living in the ruins of relationships, societies, buildings. What my book reads like: why does this instant ramen sound so good

Is there anything I can do to make this book a little less brown? Maybe using Q-tips and alcohol or something? I don't want my germaphobia to get in the way of my fully enjoying this book. I'm aware some of this is foxing, I'm mostly talking about the stuff on the hardcover part of the book.
