250 pages in and I'm at the shotgun wedding of the protag with Jamie, the love interest. This book is so surprising to me! It's not even sold as a romance, so that was my bad, I legit thought I'd be shitting on it this whole time. Instead I'm having a lot of fun.

Outlander, 200 pages, so the broody leader guy has made a big rapey pass at our protag. I'm redeemed!!! Mwahaha. I wonder if him being into the protag will make the love interest care about her (probably). Another bleh romance trope. Let's see if I'm surprised

Outlander, 100 pages in, I'm having a lot of fun with it. Something about romance writing is just candy. At this point she's back in 1700s Scotland and has adopted a young good natured scot who is injured because she's a war nurse. She's also been threatened with assault a few times.

I've decided to read Outlander next, which will be my first romance novel in over 15 years. It's 800 pages and I'm on 13. I don't know if I can do this. The writing isn't horrible and the protagonist seems intelligent (a win) but the Scottish voices are written phonetically. How many "ye"s??

Recently watched Sorcerer (1977) which doesn't involve any supernatural element in it, but is extremely good and deserves far more attention. It's a great example of excellent 70s movies and experimental pacing (imo) because the prologue takes up a third of the run time. Amazing effects too.

A great double feature viewing would be Simon King of the Witches (1971) and The Love Witch (2016). These movies should have a conversation and do. You'd agree. As an extra include Season of the Witch (1972). Drink some red wine after and talk about the occult.

Completely the opposite of Blindsight is Orbital by Samantha Harvey. A gem of a book. Ripe insight into humanity as 6 travellers orbit the earth in a space station over a week. It feels very Murakami-esque to me but without the surrealism.

If you're looking to read a dystopic (and disastrous) take on first contact, Blindsight by Peter Watts. Finished it very quickly. I love unlikeable protagonists and the concept of vampires in space really dragged me into this one.

Sleuth (1972) is an insanely good movie. Full stop. Sleuth (2007) is the weak slash fanfic remake. Both are good. The 1972 movie is like "wow, damn son Jesus this is psychotic" good. The 2007 movie is like "yeah okay I feel that agreed but this seems amateur" good.
