Late again... Finding wildflowers in late December worries me but never fails to bring joy. The perfect daisy and primrose, the soggy, struggling hawkbit and that too-early catkin, each of them alive with promise. #WildflowerHour. Primrose, daisy, strawberry, buttercup, hazel catkin and hawkbit.

Eleven hours late for #WildflowerHour but these brave flowers deserve their moment: viper's bugloss and common century (doomed never to open its petals), a celandine and a wonderfully fresh daisy.

A winter chorus of song thrush, robin and great tit singing with backing vocals from a tree full of starlings.

Most unexpected flower this week was a little sprig of blackthorn in an otherwise wintry hedgerow. Also seen white deadnettle, wood avens, speedwell, dogwood, bramble, knapweed and a campion flower with SPECTACULARLY TWIRLING anthers! #WildflowerHour

Farron is scaremongering!

Flowering this week in north-west Shropshire for #WildflowerHour are common knapweed, sowthistle, scentless mayweed, tormentil and in the 2nd collage buttercup, campion, wild carrot, self-heal, devil's-bit scabious and ragwort. These are #theWinter10.

The shocking pink berries of spindle are just opening out to reveal their equally flamboyant orange seeds,their leaves turning a subtler shade of gorgeous colour.

Last summer my husband was given some puss moth caterpillars by a guy he met while in hospital. We fed them on willow leaves and watched in fascination as they grew. In time they developed chrysalises. Today two of them emerged! #moths

Freshly arrived from North Africa, a blackcap is singing its song with a flourish in a local wood. Meanwhile, a male blackcap that has been silently feeding in my garden since January, is still here but will imminently be off to it's breeding grounds in central Europe. #seasonscollide #birds

My white flowering currant is alive with bees. At 8pm it was still buzzing with huge queen bumblebees and much smaller, black female hairy footed flower bees. Such a good shrub for wildlife. #bees #wildlifegardens
