These feckers have already made off with my last almost-five-decades' worth of creative output to try to "teach" their hopped-up answering machine how to fake writing. If anyone ever *breathed* the suggestion to me that I should willingly use that soi-disant "tool"...it would not go well for them.

Holly Lisle (RIP) used to say (I think it was in Mugging the Muse?) that she'd sell you a hundred ideas for a dollar. Because ideas are the easy part. I think about that often with these AI comments, because ideas are everywhere. Making them work... that's harder. And it's where the fun is.

It's doubly weird to see people show up cheering AI as it helps them *generate ideas,* the very thing AI is supposed to help you execute. (Poorly!) They're not even showing up, idea in hand; it's them showing up, poking the AI, and saying, DO SOMETHING. Handing all their brain to the machine.

I saw someone say AI is useful because it generates ideas. My dude, I'm full of ideas. I have docs and docs marked under 'ideas.' I have outlines and fragments of stuff I might work on. Trunked stories galore. Even if I continue to write a novel a year for the next 40 years I won't run out of ideas.

Tl;dr: the computer isn’t doing the thinking for you, it’s a guy named Jeff who taught a microwave to speak English. Why are we talking about letting Jeff decide which cancer drugs we invest in. Don’t do that. There’s no reason to think that would be good
