...Et que ces mêmes puissances peuvent donc arrêter de défendre des politiques de libre-échange et de concurrence quand elles cessent de servir leurs intérêts nationaux, alors que d'autres puissances émergentes (comme la Chine) peuvent commencer à les défendre quand ils servent les leurs.

Cette obsession finit par éclipser même les quelques intuitions importantes du livre, celle par exemple que le libre-échange a été surtout promu par les puissances hégémoniques (Grande-Bretagne puis Etats-Unis) aux époques où leur domination sur le marché mondial était largement incontestée...

L'obstination à vouloir isoler le CdlF comme objet indépendant est telle que l'auteur en vient même tout simplement à minimiser les aspects impérialistes et monopolistes des périodes dites "libérales", et à recréer le fantasme d'une mondialisation néolibérale heureuse qu'il prétendait combattre.

J'ai cédé aux sirènes médiatiques, et je peux donc dire quelques mots sur ce livre qui mêle des descriptions historiques franchement très intéressantes avec des explications théoriques qui, en raison de la nature du texte, s'avèrent hélas souvent confuses, superficielles et contradictoires. 🧵
