Saw my first lesser emperor at Cleethorpes CP today with Chris Heaton. Even managed all 3 in one shot. Great to see @msj99.bsky.social(ace flight shot Mark)and some other friendly folk. Plenty of other odonata incl. Red veined darters. @britishdragonflies.bsky.social @lincswildlife.bsky.social

Great day out with my old mate Chris Heaton at Rimac today. Hoopoe, spoonbill and self found Temmincks stint(on the pool by the car park). Big thanks to the guy who called us back when the Hoopoe flew past and the 2 lads from the North East. Lots of butterflies early on too incl. Painted Lady.

One of 5 smooth newts currently in the wildlife pond. Along with at least 18 clumps of frogspawn. Probably best year so far, since digging it in 2021, fingers crossed. The older pond in a shadier spot was never quite as good. @lincswildlife.bsky.social #pond #frogspawn #newt

A male reed bunting arrived in garden today, 6th Mar. In 2024 it arrived on 8th and last year 6th!!!. Surely the same local bird. Usually hangs around 6/7 weeks. Amazing! @lincswildlife.bsky.social @lincsbirding.bsky.social #lincsbirding

Only 4 white fronted geese left at Novartis Ings this morning plus 2 Barnacle and 2 Brent Geese. Over 200 Curlew on the fields behind the Ings. #lincsbirding @lincswildlife.bsky.social @lincsbirding.bsky.social

At least 4 ravens in Cuxwold Valley and another 2 at Croxby Top. At least 3 red kites and 10 buzzards within a 4 mile radius of my home on the edge of the Wolds. What a change in Lincolnshire in the last 40 years. Sadly, hardly any thrushes as so many of the hedges have been flailed.

A couple of hours at Horseshoe Point. 102 whoopers were accompanied by 3 white fronts and 2 pink feet. Merlin, marsh harrier and lots of twite. A treat to capture this hare in the low winter sunshine. #lincsbirding @lincsbirding.bsky.social @lincswildlife.bsky.social

Another bird in the village that rarely comes into the garden is the starling so this was a treat yesterday. You're more like to see the goldcrest that's visiting daily including this morning at Minus 5 degrees! #lincsbirding @lincswildlife.bsky.social

Despite seeing pied wagtails in the village or even from the house flying over, we've never seen them feeding in the garden.....until the this bird which has been visiting daily since 2nd Jan. A lovely addition to the garden list.

Sadly one of our local barn owls has been killed on the A46. Having collected pellets from a regular perch since Jan and was hoping to maybe record a full year. Shrews were becoming more regular in the diet. ##lincsbirding @lincsbirding.bsky.social @lincswildlife.bsky.social

On 8th Mar 2024 I had a male Reed bunting visit the garden for first time. It hung around for 5 weeks. On 6th Mar this year presumably the same bird appeared. This year it's learnt to use the feeders. #lincsbirding @lincsbirding.bsky.social @lincswildlife.bsky.social

Freezing cold trip to Forest Pines yesterday but several hawfinches, lots of nuthatch and jays to lift the spirits. Light terrible for photography.

Winters Pond yesterday. An all too brief kingfisher in the bushes. Plus short eared owl, a couple of marsh harriers and lots of duck looking resplendent in the low winter sun.
