Siting and permitting of clean energy infrastructure is complicated. DOER issued draft regulations to simplify the process for stakeholders, with guidance for local siting and consolidated permitting for small clean energy projects.

☀️We had fun celebrating two new solar canopies in Harwich and New Bedford with @massdot.bsky.social‬ and Harwich officials. Both canopies were producing energy, despite the clouds. Together, the canopies will save taxpayers more than $750,000 in energy costs over their lifetime.

Our Leading by Example team recently visited UMass Amherst to learn about a cutting-edge clean energy project–a new ground source heat pump and 2.3 million gallon renewable thermal storage tank (pictured) will heat and cool 140,000+ square feet at campus buildings.

We had a great time in the 413 celebrating Pioneer Valley Transit Authority's new 1MW rooftop solar system, which will provide more than $100,000 in annual energy cost savings! A DOER grant for $357,300 helped support the project, which also includes 536 kW of energy storage to offset peak demand.

Under the ’25-‘27 Energy Efficiency Plan, the Mass Save program will weatherize 163,000+ homes to help customers save up to 20% of their annual heating use. The Energy Efficiency Advisory Council oversees the EE Plans and meets today, and monthly. Learn more at the meeting or ma-eeac.org.

DOER awarded nearly $200,000 in technical assistance to 12 local governments to help them lower their energy use through clean energy projects. Projects include the design of solar and battery storage systems and studies to support energy resiliency and energy efficiency.

😎 We had a sun-sational time celebrating new solar canopies at Framingham State University and Mass. State Police Framingham HQ. DOER awarded $753,000 in grants to support the projects, which will reduce ongoing energy costs by a combined $1.3 million. Both projects also included EV charging. ☀️

DOER staff visited Eversource’s Framingham Networked Geothermal Pilot Project. Networked geothermal is a network of ground-source heat pumps. It pulls the earth’s heat out of the ground to warm buildings in winter, and sends heat into the ground to cool buildings in summer.

Shout out to @HamiltonMATown, a Green Community since 2010. All electricity used in municipal operations is from 100% renewable sources! Hamilton town government has a goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
