The ʻApapane is the most common and widespread honeycreeper in Hawai'i, living in the wet and mesic forests on the islands of Hawaiʻi, Maui, Lānaʻi, Kauaʻi, Molokaʻi and Oʻahu. The feed on the nectar of ōhiʻa trees, making them important pollinators in the region.
