I finally found my nudibranch white whale; the clown dorid! More specifically, a modest clown dorid. After a year of searching, I finally saw several of these dorids during the low tides last week. These guys were probably about 3 inches (7.6cm) long but can get up to ~6 inches (15 cm).

Itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot branched dendronotid on the dock today! This is my first time seeing one with this coloration. Typically the ones I find are brown and resemble the algae on the docks.

Tufted puffins in Cannon Beach and in the San Juan Islands. These guys have spent the last 8 months floating out at sea and have come back to nest. They dig burrows which can be up to 7 ft deep. It was awesome to see these little guys fly around and forage!

The Florida Keys are dying. NOAA spent 13 years developing a new recovery plan for the sanctuary. It wasn’t even some big radical proposal. It was watered down, keeping 95% of the park open to fishing, yet still a big step forward. DeSantis vetoed it anyway.

The shag-rug nudibranch’s food of choice is anemones (pics 1 and 4 show this). Their mucus temporarily prevents the stinging cells of the anemone from discharging, allowing them to eat without getting stung.
