Thank you all for the kind words and solidarity in the wake of the Hiveworks news today. It was always uncomfortable to see readers praise my work when I knew it was being actively belittled behind the scenes. Being able to speak about it openly is a tragic relief. Right then. On with the show~ 💙

RE: Hiveworks stuff, it's become really clear is how much of the toxicity of the leadership came from seeing fellow artists as competition and threats rather than comrades who lift each other up. The world is big enough for all of us. I hope we can work together and fight our real enemy (fascists)

Just a reminder that there are a ton of lovely, fantastic cartoonists out there working today who are in no way awful.

Thinking about this again

I really do want to highlight that the same person who said and did these things to me and my friends in Hiveworks makes one of the softest, cutest webcomics out there. That fact has made me mad, sad, and confused for a long time.

I also want to say how much I looked up to Isa when I first came across her on Twitter. Every time she liked or interacted with my work was a huge boost to my day. I know others have felt this too. She made herself into a daunting presence in the webcomic community. That illusion faded so fast.

The excuse was always her health, always always her health. And we always wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. Because we’re all struggling with things too. But the debt kept piling up, and the time kept passing. And nothing ever seemed to get in the way of the crow comics.

It was always just so mind-numbing to simultaneously hear: 1) Do what I do because it's best, and 2) Don't do what I do, it's not right for your comic The only kind of comic that was acceptable was one made by her. The rest of us were going to be lesser by default. It was universal.
