Kathy Collins was an activist with SNCC during the Civil Rights Movement and a playwright and filmmaker known for the film Losing Ground, and two plays, In the Midnight Hour, and The Brothers. A collection of short fiction, Whatever Happened to Interracial Love?, was published in 2016.

Gwendolyn Brooks was an American poet, author, and teacher. Her work often dealt with the personal celebrations and struggles of ordinary people in her community. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry on May 1, 1950, for Annie Allen, making her the first African American to receive a Pulitzer Prize.

Nalo Hopkinson is a Jamaican-born Canadian writer who's best known for her novels Brown Girl in the Ring and The Salt Roads. Her work draws on Caribbean history and language, and questions the historical impact of slavery on the Caribbean and Caribbean diaspora, while imagining possible futures.

Jacqueline Kay, is a Scottish poet, playwright, and novelist, known for her works Other Lovers, Trumpet, and Red Dust Road. She has won awards, including the Somerset Maugham Award in 1994 and the Guardian Fiction Prize in 1998. From 2016 to 2021, Kay was the Makar — the poet laureate of Scotland.
