We are devastated to learn that Patrick Gaulme ((@patrickgaulme.bsky.social) has passed away. He had an illustrious career in planetary and red giant seismology and was an Astronomer for SDSS-IV. He was awarded Architect status in SDSS-IV for all of his work on observations.

Reminding you that what makes @sdssurveys.bsky.social data releases special (and particularly awesome) is that we don't just give you a ton of data that only a black-belt pro can use, but we give you tutorials and value-added catalogs and data that are actually USABLE not just public.

With the release of DR19 of @sdssurveys.bsky.social we published a suite of tutorials to help astronomers use the data. I’d like to highlight two tutorials that are a little different and are targeted at introductory astronomy undergrad classes. 1/4

DR19 also includes nine brand-new Value Added Catalogs (VACs). These catalogs are based on SDSS-V spectra and data products, and produced by SDSS-V collaboration members. Find these 9, and the 67 VACs from earlier data releases all here: www.sdss.org/dr19/data_ac... #DR19

@blackholemapper.bsky.social had already released a few spectra in DR18, but they are going all out for DR19, with lots of galaxy and quasar spectra #DR19

We are busy at DocuChili, working hard on Data Release 19 in Las Cruces, MN, hosted by NMSU. We are also busy winning trivia night thanks to certain people's excellent knowledge of 80s and 90s sci-fi and cult movies.

Now we have many interesting talks on removing instrumental effects from the data and actually measuring the things we want to. 🤩

This morning at the collaboration meeting, we had a wonderful talk by Keith Hawkins on metals varying: azimuthally in the disk and in the atmospheres of white dwarfs 🔭

Lots of updates about AGN studies in the first contributed talk session. Andrea Merloni, however, is sliding in a galaxy cluster or two... 🔭

Jon Trump is explaining why supermassive black holes are so interesting and how we can measure their masses using reverberation mapping, a key program in SDSS-V. 30 years of RM campaigns ~ 80 supermassive BH studied BHM-RM -- simultaneous echo mapping of 380 quasars! 🔭
