Heat cranks up today at #PortlandGP: Sat evening final practice hit 88° amb/117° track. That’s close to where we’ll start the #IndyCar GP today at mid-day (at least for ambient). Other races: INDY NXT 75-80° this morning; USF Pro 2000 & USF2000 94-96° later today.

No major #PortlandGP forecast changes…was 82° Friday, warmer today, still expecting mid-90s Sunday. Earlier start time on Sunday will help #IndyCar avoid peak heat window…but a couple USF Pro Championship series races follow the GP and will be approaching the max temp that afternoon.

Nothing new with the forecast since previous updates…right now clouds are overcast between 400-700 ft with visibility between 2-3 miles…some patches where it’s worse…but everything should be noticeably improved by the time we get to #JavaHouseGP qualifying #IndyCar

I really don’t have any major changes to this forecast…only potential impact is possible low ceilings/visibility in morning…maybe some patchy light mist/drizzle in spots. Temps remain mild throughout. Winds should pick up each afternoon. #IndyCar

This is a great question: so the general rule for the tire safety limit is ambient temp + track temp > 100°…since the track retains heat, as long as amb temp is 50+°, the track temp will also be 50+°…so it’s good. When amb temps are < 50 then we have to hope the track temp can make up the difference

Here’s the Laguna Seca forecast for #IndyCar this weekend: no surprises in this one. 50s to mid-60s. Breezy in afternoon. Only potential impact is extent of low-level marine layer clouds in early AM..could get slight delay to early sessions (i.e. prac 2, warm-up), if conditions are right.

7 am radar check: forecast on track with rain ending. True back edge of system is still dropping thru Georgian Bay..so a couple small blips on radar to watch…may get some drops out of low clouds as they pass through…but heavy/steady rain is done. No lake breeze today..it’ll remain a north wind

Agreed…and what potentially lingers looks pretty isolated…so odds of a dry race Sunday appear to be pretty good (disappointing some I’m sure 😂)

Preview for Race 2 weather at Iowa Speedway tomorrow: a little warmer tomorrow afternoon, but with an earlier green flag time temps should actually be pretty similar to Race 1. Wind shift to the southwest…but not as breezy as today. #IndyCar

Saturday #IndyCar weather: following yesterday’s rain, some patchy areas of dense fog have set up, mainly east of Des Moines…should burn off around sunrise…then transition to mostly sunny conditions with temps maxing out in low 80s. Northwest winds for the race.

Tornado watch is valid for the area til 8pm local (CT)…though for the time being activity remains west of the Speedway…it’s starting to ramp up again as we’re into that afternoon window for the second round of storms

Friday AM update: the overnight storms are mostly through..not sure how much rain they got at the track, but Des Moines airport recorded 1.7” (and a 74 mph wind gust 😬)..minus a stray cell, we’re entering the gap I mentioned in the forecast..til round 2 storms build back in this afternoon

Don’t have much to change to the forecast as we head into Friday…I still see it as I described yesterday…seems pretty likely we’ll get some storms overnight/Friday morning…then I think radar settles down before becoming more active again late afternoon. I’ll have another update in the morning!
