im still not good at drawing from refs 100% but they are so necessary. the people you see drawing from like nothing either 1. use references or 2. have been doing this from decades and know the subject material inside and out

drawing from observation is not easy, but I think you should not give up on it! You are perfectly capable of doing it, and by training this skill you enrich your understanding of forms immensely. It takes practice but I am confident you don't need to rely on tracing, you can do it.

When I say you don't need to trace I don't mean "you need to get good" I mean you can use tools besides tracing to help you utilize your references. One example is using a grid, where you can zoom into one tricky area of a complicated ref and break it down by section

ok. We need to clear the air. Using references =/= tracing you don't need to trace your references, you can just look at them and draw from observation. Hope this helps people who are confused.
