Next week marks 5 years since the beginning of Covid lockdown. The lessons from the pandemic have not been learned - our members in the care sector are still having to fight for a decent wage and proper sick pay. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences with me today.

“Most Scots want more North Sea oil and gas to meet energy needs”. We spend more on oil and gas imports than we spend on defence or education. Closing down the North Sea early and increasing our dependence on those imports is bonkers.

Care workers do an incredible job, and they deserve to be paid properly and treated fairly. That means being able to afford to take time off when sick - not spreading illness or falling into debt. Great to join our members in HC One on their “Sick of SSP” campaign day. 🤒

For decades, councils have got away with stealing wages from women workers. Time’s up. All over the country, GMB is organising and campaigning for pay justice.

On this day 170 years ago Eleanor Marx, a co-founder of our union, was born.‬ ‪Eleanor was at the forefront of the fight for the 8 hour working day. She consistently fought for justice & equality. ‪Today we celebrate her achievements and use them to reinvigorate our drive to make change 🙌

Inequality and lack of opportunity is a threat to democracy. Tens of thousands of promised UK jobs in wind have never materialised - we’ve been exporting jobs and importing virtue. Time to bring the jobs home and reindustrialise working class communities.

The country needs gas. Fact. To heat our homes and provide energy security - today, and in the future. GMB has been sounding the alarm, and it’s time for the politicians to wake up.
