When Irving B walks into the woods, it'salso not driven by character motivation or development. Unless you count losing his mind to a half-day's worth of hunger and having psychic dreams as character development Irving dies unchanged from the end of s1.

When Dylan G decides to resign, it's not driven by any character development. He doesn't reconsider how Lumon used Gretchen to manipulate him and change his attitude; Gretchen's fleeting love doesn't inspire him to examine his friendship with Irving and how he's neglected acting on his last words.

In s2 only Dylan G is presented with a choice. The other 3 are there for plot progression and filler. And Dylan's choice is exactly the same as s1! "Will you stop working against Lumon in exchange for a great perk?" S1 Dylan G says no, s2 Dylan G says yes.

Spoilers, obviously In s1, the MDR team each made a choice driven by their personalities and development. These choices drove them to enact their plan, which resulted in the climax of s1. That's why that story felt so tight to me--every bit of character development drove the plot and vice-versa.

I know the s2 finale of #severance comes out this week but I'm going to complain about the season as if it was already done anyways. It's not that I don't like it when things are different, it's that s2 is is different in a way I don't think is good
