From a pure active travel perspective the SFS has totally missed the opportunity to engage farmers in providing 'behind the hedge' routes which would give huge environmental benefits by encouraging modal shift for just a small loss of land Instead, just an optional around improving (walking) access

Public and active transport are mutually beneficial. You won't get better buses by throwing cyclists under them.

This will be amazing but I'm still of the view that TfW should be running a (procured, externally operated) scheme which can be extended across Wales and includes integration at stations. This would really help micromobility extend in to smaller towns etc

Brilliant paper. Interventions can break habitual routines, like taking the car, and open new opportunities and benefits. We need more behaviour change approaches to encourage people to go car-free (or rather car-ownership free)

The Daily Post says the decision not to speed up the roads “divided opinion”. 16 on one side of the divide, 71,500 on the other. Counties a bit closer to me could learn a lot from councillors and MSs in Ceredigion’s decision not to politicise road safety.

Catching up on @activetravelcaf.bsky.social and there’s a really interesting talk on wayfinding. I’m a huge believer in the power of positive wayfinding in growing cycling and awareness. Too often it’s not clear where cyclists CAN or should be. Here’s a thread of my least and most favourite signs!

Benefits of rail* investment (like the planned extra trains on the Borderlands line) are multiplied by combining with multi-modal infra as cheap as cycle racks. This map shows 15mins by bike from stations on the line. If you live & travel along this multicoloured chain you can do this right now

Although you won't find it in the text (for some reason) there are really important multi-modal opportunities in the proposed (or renewed) improvements to North East Wales's transport system announced today. Maybe even some decent secure cycle parking in Wrexham hidden in plans?🤞for rapid delivery!

I personally can’t think of any road building schemes which have given places to play and add joy to the journey. (Well maybe the US parkways)

Really good episode this. The excellent point @phil-pja.bsky.social makes about cycling extending the reach of the bus network is one I keep making. The choice isn’t drive or cycle 12 miles to the nearest town, it can be cycle 1.5miles to a decent bus route - IF you can lock up there.
