Red Deer fawn. Quite an unusual sight for this time of year. They’re usually around like this in late July/August so whilst it was lovely to see it, it’s also a bit concerning to such a late baby as the rut gets underway. #ukwildlife

Absolutely, Stephanie. I've had a variety of cameras over the past 50 or so years and changed them over time for a number of reasons. Which is the best? The one I use at the moment, whatever and whenever the moment and camera might be. There's always been good, and bad, photos regardless of camera!

There is that old saying that the best camera is the one you have with you.

I always maintain it is where you stand, not what you point.

The camera is a tool to record what you see. The best tool is the one you can work with best. Personally I highly value viewfinder quality ...

I often get asked what camera I use or which I recommend, and I’ll often say that it’s what you ‘see’ that makes a good photo, not the camera you’re holding. So on that note here’s a photo from 2018 taken with an old iPhone which remains one of my favourites.

I’m off to photograph some of these magnificent creatures very early tomorrow morning. Keeping my fingers crossed for some misty conditions.

The Young Pretender: Don’t be fooled by the younger males when photographing deer- those baby antlers can still cause you damage. Keep your distance and observe/photograph them safely #ukwildlife

Safety advice: if you are in an area with deer during the upcoming rut, please remember to keep a respectful distance at all times. By respectful - that means 50m at the MINIMUM. No matter where you are these are wild animals and stags full of testosterone can be highly unpredictable. #ukwildlife

Juvenile Tufted ducks (- at least that’s what I think) out on the lake at the weekend. They look very similar to the Scaup, but have a tuft at the back of the head #birds

An excellent mornings birding on the Anglesey patch. It started with 8 Black Terns on an early morning seawatch-my highest patch count and a species I see less than annually. Followed by a Pied Fly at Hen Borth, my 4th Anglesey record, where its less than annual & my 1st for 9 years! 🪶 #BirdsinWales
