More cherry tomatoes than ever in our garden—and we never put in any plants this year. Apparently, a lone tomato from last year’s potted plant fell into the garden and reseeded itself. Can’t wait to see what happens next year when I completely ignore the garden.

Poor girl was NOT happy having to go for a dental cleaning. Losing a tooth added insult to injury, not to mention the pre-visit scramble trying to avoid a dose of gabapentin and the cat carrier. She says, “Mee-freakin’-oww, it’s #Caturday”

It took two adult humans to outwit, outplay, outlast this sweet but cagey little girl for her vet visit. Turns out she’s as slippery as an eel and fast, but a surprise move got her running directly into the cat carrier. Success!

“Cats love concrete blocks” Not so in this house. Here’s our concrete block. No cat. I try to entice her by leaving treats on it nightly. She paws the treats off and scampers away to recline on soft cushions. So much for this viral trend.

On this Labor Day, a nod to one of my fav beach breakfast places in Ft Myers, FL, where every day is summer. Last visit: 2020. Pre-COVID. Pre-three-devastating-hurricanes since 2022: Ian, Helene, Milton. And I hear it still stands.

A long time ago in a [decade] far, far away....my guy. So cute then and still.

This furry one is teaching me marketing lessons: it’s not just about the product, it’s about placement. She ignored this “super scratcher corrugated chaise lounge” in two other rooms. Once I found her sweet spot, she’s been planted here ever since.

Took my 5-year old iPhone to the Apple store for a new battery. Number of times I went to reach for it during the 90-minute wait while they were working on it: a million.

There are cat toys in nearly every room of the house. Not one caught her eye, until I untied a long, yellow shoelace used as a shoe-box handle. Now it's her fav plaything. That will teach me to shop for fancy, schmancy cat toys.

So glad Bluesky has a mute function. I had to strike a few choice names/titles/political figures from my feed, for at least a week. The constant stream of hair-on-fire news was getting to be too much. Will return to real life after this short mental health break.

I am eager to see how well these bulbs with battery backup work during the next power outage. I am equally eager to never have to find out.

If this is going to be the way summer goes, I will hibernate till winter. At least we finally got our airco back (after 5 days without, and 2 of glamping in the basement).

You're probably already doing a lot of this: voting and volunteering; mobilizing in nonviolent ways; and staying informed, combating disinformation, and amplifying the voices and stories of those most affected. So why not be counted? Unite and Rise 8.5 (million voices).

FEMA keeps issuing “extreme heat warnings,” and our airco never came back after Thursday’s 30-hour power outage. Should be fixed Wednesday. Till then, we’re glamping on air mattresses in the basement. 74 degrees down there feels much better than 89 upstairs.
