I had such a great day yesterday! I walked into a LGS to get a cheap Lorcana deck (tried it once and wanted to try different colours) and they had a launch event on that we joined. Hours of fun later we had an Opera House concert of Death Stranding music, with the original singer of BB’s theme!

I am so wrecked from the last few days of work that I’m struggling to decompress properly now that I’m home.

It feels so cathartic reading through the latest MCDM Patreon post and feeling like they are directly responding to my online group's bad experience with the previous Adventure Path we ran, even though I know its not.

My Censor player felt like he was directly countered by a Fossil Cryptic. He was being challenged. Once the party had given it damage weakness, pinged it for acting three time in a round and kept it constantly bleeding, the censor said “oh, I get it”

I'm so happy seeing the positive response to our recent work on cards.heroic.tools Not sure how healthy it is, but I absolutely live for the positive stories of people using these to play with their kids or onboard players to Draw Steel. So keen to get the new card design and colour themes out!

I knew that Dungeons and Discourse couldn’t make a Draw Steel review without making it clickbait. What a great glowing review!

As fun as last night’s Draw Steel combat was, my favourite part was after. The heroes were negotiating with the righthand-man of the big bad of the town. They uncovered that he had become the head enforcer to *protect* the people of the town (a bit misguided). They used that to end the hostilities.

The great combat of Whitehill has concluded! The heroes faced Vaz the Blackhanded and his minions. In the end, Vaz fell and Brock was left alone, still intending to fight and holding a hostage. The heroes saw that Brock hadn’t killed anyone and found peace with him through negotiation.

All set up and ready for tomorrow’s Draw Steel game! The heroes face Vaz the Blackhanded. Just as their betrayal of the tyrant has been revealed he has summoned an army of minions to fight by his side. Meanwhile, Brock and his men move to subdue Chaplain Haul, who is giving a sermon of rebellion!

Draw Steel really is a game the most heroic game to run RAW. I like running close to RAW for most games; it makes the triumphs more real. Rule of cool is always welcome, but if you're doing cool shit while being totally constrained to what's "allowed" by the game, that's so much cooler to me.

It's amazing the amount of carry-over rulings that slip into Draw Steel from other games. I, as much as everyone else, really need to look at how I'm running the game and ask "do the rules really say that?" and **not** fill in blanks left in the rules with assumptions from less-heroic games!

I’m putting together my usual session notes into written prose—it’s a fun activity, highly recommended it—but I’ve just had the fun thought of having “Director’s commentary” for my ‘meta notes’ throughout the prose, to contextualise what I thought would happen and how the players always surprise me.

Today I had an absolutely fantastic session at Draw Steel. My Monday session was almost enough to make a drop everything, but this session today will be going for months! Way too much cool shit happened for me to post here, but it was great.

After a night full of ideas and drafting, I can say that my players really enjoyed the new Kingdom Rules I made for my PF2e Kingmaker game. I still have a bit to work on, in terms of porting ideas and details, but long story short: It's Draw Steel Downtime Projects with resources and teamwork! 1/?

I have not crunched so hard on an RPG session in a long time, but I managed to run my first session of the Delian Tomb for work friends. As a result, and with many I cut, I got a useable version of a character sheet for each class, using my in development modular sheet builder! The Conduit:

I've finally gotten round to updating heroic.tools to use a grid instead of a flex display for layout. Very happy to get rid of the ugly empty space on the right-side of the website. This should also make it friendlier with super small phone screens.

Every time I run PF2e now I feel like the game isn't respecting my time. When combat starts everyone immediately looks exhausted, as we know we're about to waste an hour as heroes either roll low and miss or fail to do enough damage to matter. Either that or they steamroll and go unchallenged.

Time to condense the final two thirds of the final chapter of the final book of Sky King’s Tomb into one session. The session is in an hour and little to no prep has been made.

What a great day of Draw Steel. It started with an axe flying through reality, shattering a wizard's constructed world, and ended with a really great unexpected conclusion to the little 3-shot story.

I'm starting up a Draw Steel game with my team at work. We're going to run through the Delian Tomb. Here's the problem - there's 10-11 people that will be joining as Heroes.

I have a plan to deal with this big group, but the plan will likely change when it comes face to face with the enemy.

Just listening to @jamesintrocaso.bsky.social's stream from this morning and enjoying the discussion about buildcrafting in Draw Steel. One thing I've really enjoyed about Draw Steel is that the real buildcrafting starts when you start playing your hero and picking up titles and crafting items.

The subdomain of the Wizard is collapsing, but a solo-boss enemy is still hunting the players as they escape with the soulgem of the dracolich. Do I run the next session as an encounter focused on surviving while running or have it as a montage?

The other day, I ran the first game of a new Draw Steel series, for a friend who hadn’t played a TTRPG since we quit D&D as a group a few years ago. He was keen to be back at the table but had never played a new system before, aside from transitioning from 4e to 5e. (TLDR, he liked it)

Last night, the heroes found themselves at a river crossing, being tolled by bandits. After things escalated to blood being spilled, the Gnolls skulking nearby attacked. One player freaked out, saying “don’t fuck with Gnolls”. Even while rolling all tier 1s, they still lived up to the fear.

A friend of mine just got back from a stint overseas for the last two years. Just before he left, we were at the point of doing our first test session of Pathfinder 2e and I had just sold him on the idea of switching. Now I need to try to convince him that Draw Steel is now the chosen one.

This week our party’s tactician faced off one on one with Count Drakesbane. I didn’t want him to be a total pushover, and I knew the tactician had built-in healing options, so I used a Lvl4 Hobgoblin Brute stat block. /1

Draw Steel tonight! Our heroes defeated the werewolf, non-lethally, and found a way to reverse the curse, using a Group Reason Test at the Stormwight's ritual site to dispel the primordial chaos in the young Andy. They ended up draining a lot of their lifeforce in the process, but he was saved!

For the first time in ages, we did a proper dungeon in Pathfinder, and it was fun! People were hitting things and feeling heroic and we got through the whole thing in one session! Then I realised why: They were over-levelled. Kitted out level 4 heroes vs level 3 dungeon.
