2025 had its share of ups and downs. Probably the biggest “up” was a few of my great friends in Chicago helping me to reconnect with one of my oldest friends in the Transformers community after we’d had a falling out years back.

Know what I’m NOT nostalgic for? When something like half of the people who came to Japan to teach English were absolute fucking maniacs.

I am counting down the days to that spicy meats and cheeses plate on New Year’s Eve. I travelled all over town for cheeses last week. Came to Japan in 2006, and the cheese options back then were EXTREMELY limited. Like, your options were “natural” or credit card-sized mozzarella or cheddar.

Gifted my partner a very nice pen for Christmas and I think I may have created a monster. They were taking notes with it during a seminar today. Partner: Can we get more ink for this? Me: I think there’s a refill in the case… P: But after that?!?

Woke up this morning to an article about Logan Paul telling young people to invest in collectibles rather than traditional stuff like the stock market. The article went on to explain that *some* collectibles do have higher returns in the short term. Leave my fucking nerd shit alone, you rich dicks

I wish that video game graphics never evolved past whatever the Neo-Geo could do. I feel that video games lost something important and special once they no longer had to look like games. I’m imagining CoD games that look like Metal Slug but with exactly the same hardcore fanbase and I love that.

Most of my childhood Christmas Eves involved fights, crying, ambulances, ex-cons, drugs and cops, so I’m not super nostalgic for those. Also, the overwhelming majority of ‘em were confined to a smokey, unventilated basement, which wasn’t great for the surprising number of children in attendance.

You know who would do a great job with the Ninja Turtles action figure license for five years or so? McFarlane Toys.

Just getting back from a dinner party where everyone was older, better looking, and more successful than me and I had to make small talk for two hours without booze. Missing those 12 beers from 2020 right about now. 😵‍💫

There’s an issue of Marvel Comics’ Robocop series where Robocop investigates sabotage at a theme park featuring cloned dinosaurs. In the story, dinosaurs escape and kill a park worker. It is cover dated September 1990, before Jurassic Park was published.

It occurred to me that I’ve never actually watched Zyuranger before. It’s on U-Next, so let’s see about fixing that. Watching the first episode now and it’s…awesome?!

Giving Christmas gifts to adult friends and family is a pain in the ass. Anything they want, they buy for themselves because they’re adults. Anything really expensive, they tend to feel guilty about. Anything BIG can be a hassle. I’ve started giving gifts that show that I listen when they talk.

Every single day, I catch myself thinking that

I try to be kind. Not always with success. By the of the day last week, I was on the floor sweating with a 41 degree fever, coughing and grabbing my chest in pain. School manager saw this and stepped over me to pick something up from the desk before leaving. Told my boss today I want him fired.

I can’t get over Hasbro releasing probably the most lore-heavy Transformers toyline *ever* with ZERO supplemental storytelling material.
