I spent a few days in Cambridge for a workshop on Reimagining Democracy. I’m leaving this beautiful city thinking about the semantic frameworks we use and have used to talk about democracy and political rights, associational life, and the ‘social question’ of constitutions.

What a treat to hear so many esteemed scholars speak at this year’s Harmsworth conference at the @raioxford.bsky.social My highlights were Annette Gordon-Reed’s keynote ‘The Declaration of Independence and American Identity at 250’ and Mark Peterson’s paper ‘Why the American Revolution Must End.’

I was so busy with reading I forgot to mention that I started my PhD at @ox.ac.uk. Is there anything else to say about constitutions? I’ll let you know in about three years.

For the past few years, I've been working as the documentary editor for the PACT team, leading the creation of a digital database illustrating the day by day drafting of the Indian Constitution and curating collections of archival material relating to the drafting. Forthcoming in July 2025!
