Six grants submitted in just under a month, including 2 R21s and my K01. Please cross all your fingers & toes for me that something will hit! The reality of being a PI (and a neuroscientist in general) is facing a LOT of rejection. The resilience is in the ability to learn from it all & keep going!

First book of 2026 came so highly recommended and hyped to me personally, that I felt sort of disappointed by it. Nevertheless, I still found it captivating with lots of great trivia and history. A worthwhile read (but caveat below). Book 1 of ? in 2026: The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

Much of my reading is comprised of scientific articles and weekly editions of the New Yorker, but novels (fiction or nonfiction), short story collections, & poetry are what bring me the most joy to read. Today was a milestone day for the lab: Luis submitted his honors thesis manuscript for peer review (the first paper submitted from the lab!) and @scientificruvvy.bsky.social achieved Graduate Faculty status! This quote from Megan Gunnar as highlighted in her retirement tribute at @isdp.org has been really speaking to me lately: “If you’re never wrong, then you’ve never learned anything”. I think it speaks volumes to how we consider null findings or those opposing our hypotheses.

Great new work that also contributes to important conversations on WHO the reporter is when using subjective symptom indicators in research and clinical work. Also love seeing more ecologically valid measures for transdiagnostic constructs like avoidance.
