#Georgia: Journalists continue to be targeted during anti-gov protests. On 8 September, activists assaulted journalists, threw objects at them and stole their phones. Footage showed that the police either failed to intervene or directly participated in the attacks.

#Turkey: The Turkish government has shown a pattern of restricting access to major social media platforms during critical events, such as the police blockade of the CHP headquarters earlier this week. Such restrictions limit the ability of journalists to report on events of intense public interest.

#Belarus: Nine journalists were among the 52 political prisoners released today with the United States mediation. They have crossed into Lithuania, in what appeared to be the largest release of detainees in years. There are still 27 journalists behind bars in Belarus. We call for their release.

Last month, on August 8, the #EMFA came into force. Despite limitations and legal uncertainties, this act stands as a robust defense against unprecedented assaults on journalism and media professionals. Member States must now implement the EMFA without any further delay.
