The University of Chicago, a world-class institution whose humanities faculty in the past has included Homi Bhabha & Lauren Berlant & Ralph Ellison & Hannah freaking Arendt, is getting rid of basically every graduate department involving the acknowledgment that other cultures & languages exist.

My PhD student's NSF grant was terminated today. Her dissertation investigates why air pollution monitoring, metrics, and regulations don't properly capture the harms experienced by marginalized communities--esp in the most polluted Detroit neighborhoods. She and I are happy to talk with press etc.

This week 17 CUNY students showed up the SEVIS lists. Some have been offered pro bono counsel by their institution, while others were offered a list of paid counsel or nothing at all. I spent the afternoon talking to a terrified student on an F-1. Like what do we do? 1/
