Tip #2 of “Elevating Your Card Design” ELEGANCE = DEPTH>COMPLEXITY: If I could give 1 bit of advice to a new designer it would probably be to set word count limits on their cards to increase their depth to complexity ratio. A few years ago we said goodbye to our perfectly grumpy girl Catbeard at 13. Yesterday, her likeness was revealed immortalized on a Magic card. We miss her everyday but I am so grateful to the artist and art director who ensured that we will see her hop up on the table again. Love you Beardo ❤️

Game Designers, how do you rubberband or make catchup mechanics in your games? Especially in games where multiplayer dynamic usually keep the lead player in check, how do you ensure two player instances don’t result in runaway wins or cascading losses? 🎲✂️

In the face of all this horror, remember, do not comply in advance. Do not self censor. Make them try and make you, call their bluff, make them do it publicly and fail. Try. Gum up the works in any way you can. Let people see you do it - let them know they are not alone. Look out for each other.

Last night’s playtest w/ @breakmygame.com was one of the biggest yet! It’s great to see the Philly scene growing and I feel lucky to be surrounded by so many kind, talented, & thoughtful people. I’ve been a part of many creative communities over the years and Game Design is undoubtedly the best 🎲✂️

I've been working on a catalog of local indie tabletop games with some other designers. The goal is to give this to FLGS's to see if they have interest in buying games from us directly or from places like @ipr.bsky.social We are printing the second edition now that has a bunch of cool local games!
