Rifleman Sheldon Steel from Bramley died fighting alongside the US in Afghanistan. He was 20. That’s not avoiding the frontline - that’s putting everything on the line in the fight for freedom. Following these remarks from the US President, I’m thinking of Rifleman Steel’s family and friends.

NEW: The government has launched a new national road maintenance rating system. It’s great that Leeds has one of the highest ratings. There’s more to do. I report potholes in our community most weeks and have regular meetings with the Highways team to ensure repairs are done.

🌞 Great to be in Bramley Park for Breeze in the Park! Hundreds of local residents and families are enjoying the sun, stalls, games and inflatables. We were delighted to fund this again with our Leeds City Council Outer West Community Committee funding.

Tory cuts to our local budgets over the last 14 years have decimated SEND provision. They want us to forget what got us into this mess. At Full Council, I spoke about West SILC’s fantastic post-16 provision and this Labour government's recent investments in SEND provision.

⛪️ Delighted to catch up with local residents at St Thomas Church, Stanningley tea party this afternoon! It’s great to see the church going from strength to strength with Rev Lottie.

🌹 Grateful to the committed Labour activists who joined us on the Upper Reach Estate this morning to speak to residents about the issues that matter most to them. We picked up several issues which we will be following up this week. Thank you to all residents who gave us their time this morning.

Our first Leeds City Council Outer West Community Committee meeting of the year is Monday 30th June from 1pm at Farnley Hall. It would be great to see residents there as we take decisions on funding applications for community projects, as well as decide on our local priorities for the upcoming year.

🥵 I haven’t done a parkrun for years but I came out of retirement for the 10th anniversary of Bramley Parkrun this morning. 🏃🏻‍♂️ A really welcoming group of volunteers, runners and residents. Thank you to everyone who makes Bramley healthier and happier.

Following ours and local residents' representations to West Yorkshire Police, a Section 61 has now been agreed and the Travellers will be moved on from Bramley Falls sports pitches today. Our next steps will be to review the damage on the site, arrange repairs and look into preventative measures.

NEW: This Labour Government is extending free school meals to 500,000 more children. Any child whose parents receive Universal Credit will be able to get free school meals. This change will benefit many in Bramley, Stanningley and Rodley, saving families around £500 a year.

🇬🇧 A privilege to lay a wreath at the VE Day service in Leeds. As the Armed Forces Champions for Leeds City Council, we’re grateful to everyone who came together across the city to mark this important day.

🇬🇧 A pleasure to visit Ghyll Royd Care Home for their VE Day celebrations. It was great to meet residents, many of whom have served our country and put their lives on the line for our freedom. Thank you to local Labour Councillors Eleanor, Sonia and Oliver for inviting me.

Under the Tories, military homes fell into disrepair. Labour is setting new standards, with better move-in conditions, more reliable repairs, and a named housing officer for every family.

OWN GOAL: Tory leader, Kemi Badenoch has refused to support the government on introducing a football regulator. As #LUFC fans, we know how important it is to prevent inappropriate owners taking charge of clubs for financial profit with no interest in improving the club.

Today, my thoughts are with the Jewish Community in Leeds and across the UK. 80 years since Auschwitz was liberated, we remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and all victims of the Nazis. We must stamp out antisemitism wherever it rears its ugly head.

NEW: Labour MPs have just voted for an Armed Forces Commissioner - a direct point of contact, dedicated to improving service life for our armed forces personnel, veterans and their families. This Labour Government is prioritising those who risk everything in defence of our freedoms.

👨‍🚒 At the meeting of the West Yorkshire Fire Authority People and Culture Committee this morning, I praised the work of Stanningley Fire Station in tackling the bin arson in Bramley Park. Delighted that fire fighters attended Bramley parkrun to raise awareness of these issues.

🎄 We were delighted to join the festive cheer at St John’s Church and Rossefield Manor in Stanningley today. We always ensure we can fund these important Christmas parties for local residents. It was great to catch up with everyone this afternoon ahead of Christmas.

John Prescott was an instrumental part of the Labour Government that prevented my family from sliding into poverty. A giant of our movement and our Party, he contributed to giving me a better life as a kid and I’ll be forever grateful. Rest in peace, John.

Pleased to attend the BARCA Wellbeing Cafe finale at Broadlea Community Centre. The young people made some fantastic speeches about how the project had helped them. This group of young people are intelligent, thoughtful and welcoming. Delighted to help to fund this project.

NEW: The Labour government is delivering for defence and renewing the nation’s contract with those who serve. For the first time, we will have an Armed Forces Commissioner that will improve life for armed forces personnel and their families in Leeds and across the UK.

BUS NEWS: Labour’s Mayor of West Yorkshire has announced that she is extending our £2 bus fares until the end of March! This follows funding from the Department for Transport of £36.1 million. This is good news for everyone in our community who relies on bus services. #Bramley #Stanningley
