San Diego celebrated the 100th Birthday of Amazing Stories and Science Fiction in style. I was very proud to host this amazing panel of authors and teachers at Verbatim Books.

Excellent new SF about bots opening a ghost kitchen. I am surprised that I was so invested in AI taking the jobs of cooks. Great world building.

I really liked 28 Years Later, and while certain aspects of the story in the first one connected with me more, this second was even better directed. Nia Decosta is one heck of a horror director.

Most will find this King Hu film boring, but the locations are amazing, and the final scene is insane. Also crazy is during the DVD days I tried to find this failed. Now it is get hangin on Tubi. Wild. letterboxd.com/count_agrano...

April 12th I am doing a FREE lecture/workshop on the impact of Dorthy Fontana. She was a badass trailblazer, I am going to highlight her impact on the genre by going under the hood looking at inter-office memos and letters - deep from the Roddenberry papers at UCLA. Can't miss talk for TOS fans.

Very strange Palace murder mystery. A little long, every major transition has these super chaotic takes on Peking Opera songs.

Outside of Gosling being more handsome than I picture Grace, this is exactly the novel I pictured in my head while reading it. See it on the big screen for sure. Looks great in IMAX.

I read this novel a few years back, and this film adapted by the author has a wildly different, more slapstick tone. Same story, different tone. Very interesting. David Koepp is awesome.

Might have just kicked up a Zhang Yimou-a-thon. After HERO Yimou narrowed the scope, but this love story of spies and rebels makes for a excellent, better than I remembered Wuxia movie.

Today in PKD predicted it. The 1963 story If There Was No Benny Cemoli is the only one to explain the Homeopape. A news paper network that skims surveillance to auto-generate news reports. in the story the AI hallucinates a resistance leader.

Not high art, but I enjoyed this silly SF action movie.

I am a misanthrope, and I kinda rolled my eyes at the message at the end, but I respect the execution. We need more SF like this.

At the peak of my kungfu movie DVD collecting I spent years failing to find this King Hu film. Now it is straight streaming in Tubi. Sammo Hung fights, tense dialogue scenes in the Inn, Angela Mao on trampolines. Hell yeah

Just saw the new Yuen Woo-Ping Wuxia epic in the theater. Rich characters blended w/Fury Road pacing, excellent Jet Li cameo, Desert vistas, Insane sandstorm sword fight... must see for Wuxia fans.

Book review up for this fantastic techno-dystopia from @justinkey.bsky.social, part medical thriller but set in a future controlled by corporate AI.

Was rooting for this horror film but it was uneven at best. I think with different casting I might have enjoyed a little more.

Snappy noir dialogue was enough for me. Bakersfield is strange settings for this, but one Coen Bro was enough for me here.

I liked this and I want to have the director on the PKD hangout please.
