I just learned that the reason we use black and white soccer balls is because of a gimmick created by Adidas in honor of the Telstar Satellite, a satellite launched in the 1960s that was shaped like a ball and dotted with little solar panels....like a soccer ball. Soccer balls used to be BROWN

My one albatross reference is The Rescuers (Down Under, idk why the sequel was the one we had growing up). Albatrosses Orville & Wilbur run the Albatross Air Service, which flies the little mouse protagonists around. This scene is deep in there

Something fun I just learned: The screenwriter for Miss Congeniality didn't like the original music they had for the pageant anthem, so he asked his 5 year old son to write a new one. The producers unknowingly chose it for the film. You can hear it in this clip:

Question for the hivemind: If I want warm water to come out of a tap like this, will it warm up faster if I turn it all the way to hot, or will it take the same amount of time if I turn it to the medium temperature I'm looking for? Husband thinks it's the first one, but I'm questioning

By "a ring," does the narrator of Santa Baby mean she wants Santa to pop the question? Seems like a pretty boring ask to end the song with otherwise.

Asheville is so proud of the Biltmore that there are at least three neighborhoods named after it -- Biltmore Park, Biltmore Village, Biltmore Forest -- all of which are far enough away from each other that any confusion will cost you 20-30 minutes in drive time

honestly "your body, my choice" is such sophomoric little boy behavior, the thing boys say because they want to see what will happen if they do. it's the kind of thing a boy says before his mom grabs him by the ear and takes him outside for a stern talking to, after which he never does it again.

It's incredible what a toddler can do with a limited vocabulary. My kid only knows "hot" and "cold," but hot coffee, sour kiwi, and carbonation are all "hot," which I honestly can't argue with

Older ladies: what is the correct response when someone says "You don't look [your age]" ? It doesn't feel great to say thank you because there's nothing wrong with being my age. Younger people: This is a super awkward thing to tell people, maybe reevaluate your perception of what "old" is
