I pre-ordered seed potatoes & onion sets & a horseradish for my garden this morning and now I am filled with a probably unwarranted sense of hope and faith in a better future where I have plants making vegetables in my tiny decrepit urban yard. This, more than any other reason, is why I garden.

Friends: are people doing zines anymore? Are we in a space for a zine renaissance? I have an urge to create a series of zines about pickling and fermentation for beginners and I guess I'm gonna work on it regardless but it would be cool if there seemed to be interest in it!

Photos from today's big rally to protect trans kids & denounce NYC hospital systems for illegally cutting off their care after Trump’s executive order. Moving talks by many trans youth and their parents. "When trans youth are under attack, what do we do? Act up, fight back!"

I love being old because I know exactly where this CD is in my house and I remember where and when I bought it (1996, secondhand at CD Spins on Newbury St in Boston).

It is Friday afternoon of a wild, wild week. And yet for me a reassuring one. My greatest fear was not of what they would do. It's that we would let them. And I'm seeing a lot of beautiful intransigence. From federal workers. From people all over the country obstructing ICE....

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government.

Greetings from Florence, SC, where the Cracker Barrel has inexplicably given me at least a pound of country ham on my breakfast sampler. I was just talking about how Southern Cracker Barrels are different (better, tbh) from Northern Cracker Barrels and it's like they did this to make a point.

Watching a parent become legit elderly is a whole trip. All the moreso when the parent in question fully expected to have been dead 15-20 years ago (and raised you with the same expectation) so they're caught by surprise in having to figure out how to exist in old age.

Bonnie has been our unofficial mayor for some time, but we felt like today was a good day to make it official. She embodies all of the qualities we value here at Merrymac: equity, compassion, kindness, inclusion, curiosity, education, and joy! 👑

So until a few weeks ago, based on how the commentators pronounce it, I thought it was called a Halloumi Kick. Yes, like the cheese.

When I signed up for Bluesky the first thing I did was follow several dozen bird people and bug people and today I'm really grateful to my past self for those decisions.

Y'all know I'm going to fight. I'm going to build with communities of resistance and refusal. You'll hear from me about that, trust. But today I want to share another hot tip for survival in dark times: plan for joy. 1/x

Let's ban an app for being dangerously connected to China (an overblown assertion to start with) and then fix the problem by proposing said app be controlled by the state.

Drivers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island are supposedly the worst in the country but I swear, right now people in South Florida are driving like they're trying to DIE. I don't know that I'd want to live in Florida either tbh.

I watched the final episode of Vera tonight and spent the final fifteen minutes inconsolably sobbing. Then I needed half an hour to collect myself. In other news, I think I'm holding a lot of unexamined grief right now.

Years ago I broke a bone in my hand. It looked weird, so I calmly crunched my hand back into a normal-looking shape. When I wrote about this, a commenter admired my "sangfroid" (literally "cold blood") in trying to fix it. This is also how I feel about learning a new social media platform today.
