Recalled one of my older games, Crystal Commune. it's a little city simulator that uses GameBoy resolution + 16x16 sprites. It was a nice artistic challenge to convey things with so few pixels. #gamedev #pixelart

I made a little jig to splice PLA filament. A small silicon tube (that I cast) can be heated with a soldering iron, melting and forming the joint within. I made it a bit too thick, so it's hard to see the melting in action, but other than that it works well! #3dprinting

Took apart a defunct Cue Reader (it's meant to detect COVID-19 infections, stupid thing never worked for me). Couldn't get inside the cartridge, where all the interesting bits are. So far the only reusable parts are probably the USB-C plug and maybe the wireless charging antenna. Lots of magnets.

I got a centigram scale from American Weight Scales and 3D printed a little mixing cup so I can mix small amounts of silicone and cast small things, in this case a lens cap for my Rapsberry Pi webcam I built a few years ago. The mold is also 3D printed. #3dprinting #silicone

I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.

Got the robot to lift its feet in sim. Was going to try it on the real robot, but it stopped detecting my IMU after I removed an unused display: turns out that display was the only thing with a pull-up resistor to make the I2C bus work. #robotics #reinforcementlearning

I play a lot of click-heavy games (e.g. Path of Exile), and it's really annoying for everyone in the room (including myself) to hear the constant clicking. Luckily, most mice use standard microswitches, and you can buy the silent kind. It's a simple soldering job to replace them. #soldering #mouse

I am tuning a simulated servo in MuJoCo by fitting it to data collected from the real thing (D=5). I tried Bayesian Optimization via Python's bayesopt (and bayes-optim) and it completely failed!
