The NSNU is holding a bargaining conference today in Truro welcoming 150 participants in advance of negotiations.

After many hours of debating, voting, and reporting, the 53rd Convention of the Nova Scotia Federation has adjourned. The NSNU extends congratulations to Melissa Marsman, the new president of the NSFL. We look forward to working closely with Melissa, a highly experienced labour leader.

At a rally this morning, participants at the 53rd Convention of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour demonstrated their solidarity with CUPE Local 3912, part-time faculty at St. Mary’s University and Mount Saint Vincent University.

Close to 30 NSNU members, and many other fierce union activists, gathered in Halifax yesterday to kickstart the 53rd Convention of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour.

CFNU is leading the creation of a national council to implement nurse-patient ratios – a vital tool for the safety of both nurses and patients. The council will include government representatives, employers, academics and nurses’ unions.

World Mental Health Day is a reminder of the need to care for our mental well-being. The CFNU has adopted the phrase “There is no health without mental health” as a core resolution, underscoring the reality that mental health is inseparable from overall wellness.

Today, we acknowledge and appreciate the remarkable contributions made by our emergency nurses. After years of challenges and crises in emergency departments, these nurses continue to provide outstanding care. Their efforts are appreciated, their work is valued, the NSNU is proud to represent them.

The NSNU sends a sincere thank you to all the teachers in our province. Behind every nurse who cares for Nova Scotians, there were teachers who nurtured curiosity, encouraged learning and helped shape their path to nursing. Today, we celebrate their commitment to educating young Nova Scotians.

While in Ottawa for meetings with the CFNU NEB, NSNU’s President Janet Hazelton, 1st VP Donna Gillis & Executive Director Chris Albrecht joined forces with other labour leaders (Including CUPW's Jim Gallant from NS) at a rally this morning across from Parliament in support of CUPW.

This is a reminder to our members who are eligible for Nursing Practice and/or Nursing Leadership Premiums that the deadline for submission of proof of eligibility is October 31st. These premiums offered to qualifying nurses to recognize and encourage nursing leadership activities.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. It is a time to grieve and to acknowledge the long-standing effects of residential schools.

Tomorrow is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Formerly known as Orange Shirt Day, this day provides an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the tragic legacy of residential schools. The NSNU office will be closed on Tuesday in observation of this Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
