NEW: The CBO has released its latest estimate on the recently enacted Republican reconciliation bill. About 15M people lose health coverage and become uninsured under the Republican #Medicaid & #ACA marketplace agenda. Policymakers should protect people's health care, not cut it.

While the richest in Virginia would get huge tax handouts, people w/ the lowest incomes would see an average $100. Many may also lose their #HealthCare. “Would you rather have health care or $100?" asked TCI's Freddy Mejia. "The clear answer would be access to health coverage.”

Medicaid helps keep people healthy enough to work or care for others. Work requirement proposals add paperwork to what most are already doing and take away #HealthCare from many, making it harder to be healthy and go to work. Make it make sense. #ProtectMedicaid

Many are teeing this up again. We're all for flipping our #UpsideDownTaxCode to help people afford the basics. But why pick & choose which low-paid workers benefit? There are more effective & targeted tax choices, e.g. #EITC, #CommonwealthKidsCredit

The House GOP plan would exclude an estimated 87,000 U.S. citizen & lawfully residing children in Virginia from the #ChildTaxCredit by requiring both parents (if married) to have an SSN for their child to get the CTC. Taking funds from kids is not okay.

Need more good news?! The final #VaBudget includes two key #VaLeg choices to #FundOurSchools: 1. Covering the state share of an additional 4,725 support staff to help students succeed in class 2. Additional $ specific to helping students with special needs overcome barriers — a 1st for Virginia!

BREAKING: Per Richmond Times-Dispatch, Rep. Wittman "would not support cuts that would trigger the 'kill switch' in Virginia law," which would automatically kick ~630,000 people off health coverage via Medicaid expansion. This is very encouraging! #ProtectMedicaid

Need some good news? #VaLeg's choice to improve Virginia's refundable #EITC was included in the final #VaBudget! A married couple with two children and a $30,000 income, for example, will get over $1,000 back at tax time next year — $300+ more than this year.
