Our forward Angel Guzman got a scholarship to play sled hockey for Penn State. Here are a couple of shots from their first week of practice this season. Angel started with us when he was about six years old, we're very proud of how far he's come.

And that's a wrap on LA Kings Sled Hockey's 2024-25 season. We will return to Icetown Riverside the first Thursday in September. We will be doing some fundraisers in the off-season to help close our funding gap, so stay tuned. Thanks to everyone for your support!

[7] This program is 100% worth supporting because it enriches lives and heals souls. That alone should be enough for people to step up and help. We can't maintain the team on our own, no matter how many banners we hang at Icetown Riverside, because disabled people don't have financial stability.

[6] We have an athlete who landed a scholarship for sled hockey at Penn State, and another who might be considered for next year. Our players have overcome hurdles few of you could imagine, and give it their all in every game. They come from four different counties, making team fundraising hard.

[5] Honestly, the NHL's "Hockey Is For Everyone" campaign chafes me because it's apparently not true. It's easy for teams to spend $$$ on giveaways for every identity under the sun: hats, scarves, bobbleheads, etc. But there's no room to help athletes who have won four championships in two years?

[4] Our sled program has been told we're not worth supporting anymore because we're not big enough. Guess what would help us grow. That's right: financial support from organizations and individuals who actually care about the disabled and understand how life-changing sports like sled hockey can be.

[3] NHL teams pour a vast amount of money into youth hockey programs; understandable because they are the future of the sport. But hockey families are, on average, the wealthiest out of the five major youth sports. Disabled hockey players have minimal resources and would benefit from more support...

[2] A few numbers: Average annual family income for a youth hockey player in the US is $114k (per USA Hockey). Average annual income for a disabled adult in the US is $44k (per the gov't). Many disabled people can't have more than $2k in the bank or get married without losing their benefits...

[1] To clarify, while we are ostensibly sponsored by the LA Kings organization, we have not received any financial support from them this season. When we talk to potential supporters, they invariably ask why we're seeking donations when the Kings have a foundation for such things. Good question.

For the second time, Los Angeles Kings Sled Hockey has won the Reno Rumble championship! Kudos to all of our athletes and coaches for a great weekend. This is our fourth championship in two years. We hope @lakings.bsky.social might actually restore our funding after all this success.

LA Kings Sled Hockey has gone undefeated and will play the Kraken tomorrow morning in the Reno Rumble championship game! Hoping to take home our second banner from the tournament.

We won both games so far at the Reno Rumble. Anthony Sanchez scored his first-ever goal last night against the Ducks, then today he scored the game winner vs Seattle. Game 3 coming up against host Reno. #gokingsgo

Kudos to LA Kings Sled Hockey forward Angel Guzman, who has earned a scholarship to attend Penn State for their collegiate sled hockey program. Angel is a 17-year-old senior who has been with our team for 12 years now. We're sad to lose him soon but excited for his future!
