Why are we shunting this out of August and out of the game globally to watch people dressed as crisps or people pretending to play for cities they've never set foot in

Surrey Women v Warwickshire Shame these games havenāt been better supported. Decent games and Surrey going very well and won the group. They deserve better crowds.

I deeply dislike the FIFA-esque money men running English cricket. They cut the Championship & sideline England players but want Ashes/WTC success; devalue the ODC but want World Cup success; & think 16-over games are the key to T20 successāall while chasing short-term profits over real progress.

Today is the last day of weekend County Championship cricket at The Oval this season. This and the kookaburra ball show how little the ECB think of it and soon weāll have the confirmation of a reduction in games. Wreckers.

Enjoying the Test match? We're only ONE WEEK AWAY from men's County Cricket Day, so why not take the opportunity to enjoy an affordable day out at the cricket in person? There's no better place to spend a summer afternoon with your mates or the family.

Very pleased Mitch Santner has extended his spell at Surrey. Given our away draws this year and now the Kookaburra ball, with which we have yet to win, he could be crucial.

Mega historical bust ups. A thread. 1. King John and Philip of France The powerful foreigner cynically helped put the incompetent, odious sex offender on the throne only to launch an all out war against him. John bankrupted his kingdom, fell out with everyone and shat himself to death

Money from the H*ndred creating haves & have-nots counties, you say? Players moving for pay bump, career ops, success & better facilities Wow, what an entirely unexpected consequence no-one could have foreseen And the ECB lied to counties get it thru

The tiny crowd at Old Trafford last night for the T20 Blast. So sad. ECB have achieved their frankly inexplicable goal of killing off the Blast & the counties. Rather than recognise & promote a wonderful loved product and competition. Various decisions & deliberate acts of sabotage have led to this

Today I chatted to a young couple with their tiny baby doing a tour of the county grounds in our crowd of over 2,000. Surrey had the largest crowd this century of well over 6,000. County cricket in its present guise is having a resurgence & is popular as it is. DONāT CHANGE IT

Oval, London: Cricket, Communes, and a CuriousĀ Past
If you ask a Londoner about Oval, chances are they'll immediately think of cricket. And fair enough, given that The Oval (or to give it its proper, sponsorship-laden name, the Kia Oval) is one of the most famous cricket grounds in the world. But scratch beneath the surface of this South London neighbourhood, and youāll find a place with a history as layered as a well-made Victoria sponge.
